Great news for our TY group, we came second in the edublog awards.. happy days! The awards were held online at 12 o' clock last night so Mrs.L was interrupted from her sleep! There was only 50 votes separating us and the winners... *sigh*.
Yesterday, i wrote about the cake sale we were holding in order to raise funds for our Mini Company, we managed to raise 123 euro! I was so proud of our team as we really worked hard and that is a lot of money. We should be able to order our products soon, nail varnish pens.
Less than an hour ago, we had our fashion show for Home Economics. We were given the task of designing an outfit in a certain colour. We were given blue, so we decided to make a dress inspired by Cinderella. We were finished our dress making pretty early, so weren't rushing like the other groups. Helen was our model, so she walked up and down the platform and it went very well.
It's been a very successful yet busy few days of TY, I'm going to make the most of these Christmas Holidays.. Roll on!

I am in need of a new blog..
Wow, i haven't blogged in forever, simply because I've been missing IT classes, left right and centre and also been finishing projects in every IT class i get. While I'm here, I might as well fill you in on everything we've been up to. So we've been to opera. We went to see the production of 'Don Giovanni' in the Swan Cinema in Rathmines. However, it was way too long, 5 hours! I'm not going to lie, i might had a tiny little nap in the second half.... not. I fell asleep. It's a bad habit of mine. I saw the majority of the opera and it was quite good. The singers were unbelievable and it was very dramatic and professional. A good day was had overall. We also went to the ballet, which was a lot better than i thought it would be. Ballet wouldn't be my cup of tea, but this show opened my eyes to what ballet can offer. We also had a fellow TY, Laura Smyth, performing in the show.
Apart from trips, we've also been finishing all our projects; geography, history etc. But for now, i'm finally finished! So we have a cake sale today to raise funds for our Mini Company. I spent the night baking rice krispie buns, muffins and chocolate chip cookies. Our whole group has brought in a lot of stuff so we should make a 'few bob' as they say. We're also going to raffle off a cake so we should be successfull.

Work Experience.. what a week.
Thursday, 24th November 2011
Back to school this week after a hectic week of work experience .. *sigh*. I have to say, it was a lot more fun than i thought it would be. From Monday to Friday, i was kept busy non-stop. From painting, to helping the children with reading to the Mini Scientist. I was in St.Brigid's Primary school for the week, and it was such a good feeling to be back. The place looked so different, but yet the exact same, at the same time. I was put into a Senior Infants class, they were crazy, but so cute. I became so fond of the class instantly, they welcomed me with open arms and were so enthusiastic. I got a really good insight into the world of work, and work experience has really opened my eyes about teaching. I am definitely more motivated and determined to do teaching when i am older... fingers crossed! I was so sad to see the week end, it really did fly in unfortunately. I had an amazing week.

Work Experience... that flew in!
Wednesday, 9th November 2011
I havent't blogged in a while, because of midterm, so here goes...
Next week, all TY students will be going out on their Work Experience. We will be working for 5 days. I will be going to St.Brigid's Primary School, the school i attended. I've wanted to be a primary teacher all my life.. literally. So now i have the chance to test it out and see if it really is the job for me! I chose to go to Brigid's because, not only was it my school, but I have 8 years of amazing memories from that place, the teachers are incredibly friendly in there, and I'd love to go back and relive a school day in Brigid's once again. I put in my application very early, so that I would hopefully have a good chance of getting in. I did.. Happy Days!
What i hope to gain from Work Experience: First of all I would like to get a taste of what the world of work is really like, is it difficult, frustrating etc. I want to find out if primary teaching really is for me and do i like it. I hope to develop my communication skills, both with the students and teachers. I hope to follow all instructions that I am given. I promise to make the most of my 5 days at Brigid's as I know this is probably the only time I'll get this chance.
I'll write about my Work Experience when I get back.

' Juno and the Paaaaaycock ' (Dublin accent)
Thursday, 20th October 2011.
Week 9, wow the weeks really are flowing in aren't they.. Having said that, I am having the time of my life these past few weeks and I am so grateful for this opportunity.
Yesterday, the 19th of October, all TYs headed into Dublin city for the day. The trip was organised by Ms. G, Ms. B and Ms. C, the three TY English teachers. The first stop was the bog bodies. Oh my god it was incredible. We were looking at real dead bodies perserved from the past! It really was an eye-opening experience, slighty scary to look at but like i said, incredible.
Next up was the W.B. Yeats museum. This was a very benifical trip and well planned as W.B. Yeats is on our Leaving Cert English course. We were given a worksheet of questions to answer on Yeats himself. This was very helpful as we could only find the questions by looking at absolutely everything in the exhibition. I got the chance to read his works, and find out everything about his life. It was a well laid-out exhibition. I surprisingly really enjoyed it and found it extremely intersting.
The part i found most interesting was the fact that Yeats only got 69 % in English in school , can you believe it from a man like him?
We then went into the National Library which was next to the W.B. Yeats museum. It was quite small so things got a little crowed. Having said that, i learned alot about life in Ireland in the past from looking at old match programmes, diary entries etc. I also had the chance to look up my ancestors on the computer which was very exciting.
Our final trip was to the Abbey Theatre for the production of ' Juno and the Paycock' . It is based in Dublin during the 1920s, hence the '' dublin accent'' in my title. Reading the play, let's be honest, most of us couldn't really understand what was going on and found it rather boring. However, watching the two-hour long play, gave me an extremely better idea of the storyline. It was exciting, humerous yet sad all at the same time. The play shows us how different life was back then and how lucky we are compared too our ancestors. The actors and actresses really inspired me. They were so passionate about what they were doing and really got into their character. I didn't want to look away from the stage I was that into it. My favourite character was Johnny, and I think my fellow TY classmates will agree..
Overall, it was a very productive and memorable day of TY.

Para bailar La BANBA..
Thursday, October 13th 2011
Guess what? WE WON THE FUN WALK! We didn't have a crazy original dance or gymnastics like the other classes, but we included bullying , which was the theme of the fun walk. We included what they were asking for, therefore we won.Hats off to Eriu and Fodla, though, their dances were amazing. Delighted we won, and made Mr.L proud of us.
We had Mrs.B pushing Mr.L over, to show bullying.Mr L. called out for help screaming " BOB HELP ME!". We were all dressed as builders. We were trying to show that bullying CAN be fixed if we all help, which is why we sang the Bob the Builder theme tune " Bob the Builder, can we fix it? ". It was a great success, and i had so much fun.
I cannot imagine being in any of the other classes, oh how i love Banba.... FUN WALK WINNERS 2011

What's in store for yet another busy week of TY....

Roll on next week...

TY is such a busy year... no exaggeration. We've been asked by Mrs.L to write a blog about basically what we're up to during the next week.
- The Fun Walk - that one day a year where we walk around Celbridge dressed up as different things, raising money for charity. We have to perform a dance as class Banba. We're doing Bob the Builder, real mature.. I love it though.
- Geography - i must work on my ' round the world trip' geography project which i am doing with Helen. I must do research on the project and write some of it up and print pictures.
- Home Ec. - In Home Ec. we are designing a dress from the 1700's. By next week we should have the whole thing put together, using bed sheets, jeans etc.
- Mini.Co. Workshop - Next Wednesday we are going on a trip to Newbridge for the Mini.Co. workshop. We have our idea ready which is a good start. Hopefully by the end of Wednesday we should have alot more imformation about what we plan to do.
- English Drama - In English class, we've been split into two groups of thirteen to write a play and perform it in a National Competition in Mullingar. We are basing our play on the tragic story of Phoebe Prince, who took her own life to bullying. It will hopefully give people a moving image of how serious bullying is.
Roll on next week...

9 years Grandad , RIP
Friday , 30th September 2011
I've been busy with projects lately that i haven't had a chance to blog during IT class.. Well, we're busy as ever in TY of course, projects, science proposal, activities, our fun walk dance etc etc. We were at a Mini Company workshop today in Naas. She liked our idea, which is a good start! We're really going to have to work our socks off to produce and sell this nail varnish/remover pen. However, she liked our idea, which is a good start! Then in photography, we took lots ofphotos with our class, Banba, then we did pilates which tired me out before my two training sessions that night! The weekend could not have come any sooner...
Not only is it finally the weekend, it's also the 9th anniversary of my grandfather's death. He used to make me smile so easily and laugh til my sides hurt. Hope you're looking down on us, i wish i got to spend more memorable years with you, thinking of you, R.I.P Pops <3

Junior Cert? What Junior Cert?
Thursday, 15th September 2011
Just when i had forgotten we had even done the Junior Cert, the results were finally in! They couldn't keep us in suspense any longer. The had us line up in alabetical order, to my delight, my second name is high in the alphabet so i was one of the first to get mine. As soon as i was handed the envelope, i quickly ran to reception to peek at my results. Well my smile could not have been bigger! 4 as! An A in history, the subject I've been slipping in all year! And i didn't fail science, to get a C was amazing for me. I rang my mam , who got slightly over excited on the other end of the phone, and my dad was outside to collect me and congratulate me.
Roll on the Leaving Cert guys..

Carlingford....oh wow.
Wednesday, 14th September 2011
Today's the day guys, the results are in.... I'm currently sitting in IT class, waiting..waiting.. for the results, why can't they just give them to us now ? However, Carlingford has taken my mind off the results thank God. All i can say is, what an experience. No words can truly describe how good it was , and you have to be there, to really know anything about it. The fact that i didn't want to leave pretty much tells you how much i liked it! I got up bright and early and 6 o' clock, i was so proud! We had to be at the esso garage at 6:45.. lovely. The fun was had the minute we left esso, til' the minute we arrived back to esso and 7 the following evening.
We started off our Carlingford adventure with a lovely hike up a huge hill, which was NOT fun! We then got given army uniforms and laser guns and were separated into the blue or the red team, i was blue. We had a battle, like in the army, hiding behind trenches and repotring back to base , only difference was that we used laser guns.. oh and that nobody was killed! Everybody got so into it, which made it even better. It got competitive at times, but that was expected. Next we got divided into groups of ten, and we participated in various challenge courses, involving working together and laughing til' our sides hurt. Our instructor was John... what a man. He is my new idol.
The night , we did the 'Night Line' which basically involved walking around in a forest in pitch black , with a blind-fold, and following a rope to get around. It was so much fun, and involed alot of stumbling over things, but laughs too. When we arrived back to the centre, we endured in a 'Sing Song' with a boys school, who were staying in the centre. This was the first time this had happened in the history of our school, and everybody really enjoyed it. Some girls from our school even got up to belt out a tune, showing everyone their amazing voices, I was so jealous.. * sigh * .
The next day, we went up to the cliffs to do abseiling and climbing, i was not looking forward to it as i am absolutely terrified of heights! Surprisingly i conquered my fears, along with the help of my friends and i was so glad i did it, as it's not often to get to climb a cliff or abseil down one! To end our stay at Carlingford, we took part in orienteering, which really took it out of us all and is partly the reason why i cannot feel my legs. We had to make our way around the mountains, walking up steep paths , walking through rivers etc. My group made our way through the course pretty quickly so we got to relax back at the centre for longer than the others. Working together, really makes things get done quicker, and i learned that the hard way.
Im so grateful for this experience of a lifetime and I'm so glad our school brought us. I'm never going to the two days, and I hope I will return to Carlingford in the near future.

'THE' week...
11th September 2011
For anyone that knows me, you will know well that i have been looing forward to this week for god knows how long! This week promises to be the best of my life... literally. It starts on Monday, with our two day trip to Carlingford, the fun will be had i bet. The trip will be full of group activities involving working together and ' having the bant' . We come home on Wednesday and straight to bed I'll go! Wednesday morning we come in to receive our long awaited results, the should be interesting... Then off to time to celebrate!
Thursday morning i head down on a four-hour long train journey down to Kerry, my favourite place in the entire world, for the Listowel Races. Friday is 'Ladies Day' and I'm sure it will a great day , here's hoping i don't lose all my money.. Saturday I'm travelling back from Kerry, which is usually depressing as i nearly have to be tied to a chair every time i have to leave 'The Kingdom'. But it won't be so bad , as we're in an under 16 Division 1 Final! This is the first time our club has achieved this, no pressure eh?
For any GAA fans out there, you'll know that Sunday is the All-Ireland Final between Dublin and Kerry. I'm supporting Kerry, incase that wasn't clear, trust me , I'm obsessed with GAA and anything to do with Kerry Football... it scares people. I have ticket for Hill 16, which is owned by the Dubs and I'm a Kerry fan, YAY!
Kerry for Sam lads..

TY .. what lies ahead?
September 7th, 2011
We began TY last Monday, the 29th of August, and i was put into class Banba , and i am so glad. We have been given a task of making a blog, so i will try my best to give you an enjoyable read. Our class is full of different personalities, and I'm hoping to become closer to girls I wasn't close to in 1st - 3rd Year. TY is brilliant so far, there has already been so many memories, from pilates and photography , to planning our pretend trip around the world in Geography! I've done Art , for the first time since my days of primary school , and boy am i glad i didn't do it for Junior Cert, I'm terrible! However, our teacher is very helpful, as are my classmates. Like i said, we've been given a Geography project , about going on a world trip, to six different countries. The down side? We've only been given 12,000 euro to spend , and yes.. that is 36 euro a day, without flights and accomodation included! Although it is not real, it's a really fun thing to do and is quite exciting actually!
In Home Ec, we've been given a task of designing a dress , from any era, any type, but it must be blue, as that is the colour we have been giving. It promises to be fun for our group , as fashion interests alot of teenage girls. The Young Scientist Competition takes place in January, however, we have to think of our ideas now. Unfortunately, it's not going to plan and all our ideas are apparently ' unoriginal ' , but hopefully by the time i write my next blog, we will have an idea of some sort!
TY.. what do i want to gain from it? I want to mature as a person, learn to work better in groups , get more organised, do well in my projects, a worthwhile work experience , and most of all? FUN . Hopefully i can fulfill these goals. For now, i'm going to take each day as it comes...
